Questions

Hey guys! Here are the questions for pages 23-42:

These four chapters were intense--even I couldn't keep the book down!

1. Luke's family received a letter in the mail from the government in chapter 5--what did the letter ask the family to do? Why was this a big deal?

2. Why did Luke's mother have to go back to work? Why do you think Luke is upset? How would you feel in Luke's shoes?

3. What are Barons? What is their significance to this story?

 4. Luke's Dad came home early from work and what did he find? Why was he so upset? Do you think Luke's Dad had a reason to be upset?

5. Chapter 8 ends with a cliff hanger! What happened?

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions :-)

  1. 1. The letter asked them to get rid of the pigs. This was such a big deal because they made money on the pigs.

  2. 2. Luke's mom went back to work because they couldn't make money without the pigs. I think that Luke was upset because he was alone at home all day. If i were in Luke's shoes I would be bored to death by myself. I also would be scared that the government might knock on the door at anytime i'm by myself

    1. Excellent response! It would be scary and boring to be sitting at home all day; especially if the Government can come and go as they please!

  3. 3. Barons are people who have a ton of money or they are rich in this story. The barons are important because they moved on to Luke's street which now means Luke has to be more careful to not be seen.

  10. A Baron is someone who is extremely rich. The woods around his home are being torn down to make houses for the Barons. This means Luke can't go outside because he might get caught and killed.

  11. Luke's dad found bread baking in the oven. He was upset because that meant that Luke came out of his room and could have been seen. I think he had a reason to be upset because Luke still could have been seen even though the shades were down.
